A: Life is the opposite of death.

J: So death is the absence of life?

I am currently in Vegas for the National Association of Broadcasters Convention. So posting will still be light for the next few days or so.

Some highlights:

Apple released an update to the whole editing suite. Final Cut Studio 2 has Final Cut Pro 6, DVD SP4, Motion 3, Soundtrack 2, a really cool color correction tool and Compressor on steroids. Also, they just developed an asset management tool called Final Cut Server.

I was hoping that it could be a replacement for some underdeveloped software we use at work, but I don’t think it will be. It might be useful to us though.

AJA just released a HD IO box where they claim “With a single FireWire 800 connection, Io HD supports the amazing new Apple ProRes 422 Codec—natively, in hardware, to bring production-quality HD editing to laptops!”

And this camera looks pretty sweet!

OK… maybe more later.

For those of you recovering from yesterday’s rigorous scrubbing at the hands of god’s wash maids, this’ll help get you grubby again.

Let’s talk about the flood. No, not that one… this one. You know, that great myth where some guy named Noah scoops up all the animals on the earth, marches ‘em 2×2 into his great ark and sails the ocean blue until god’s wrath recedes.

Creationists are probably more defensive about the Flood than any other part of their mythology. One indication of that is the fact that the seminal work of modern creationism (oxymoron) was called The Genesis Flood. The Flood story apparently required lots of explanation and justification if anyone were to take creationism seriously. An instantaneous supernatural creation by an omnipotent God is somehow easier to swallow than the cobbled-up mish-mash of legends that became the biblical Flood story.

So did they go out and collect everything? Even STD’s?

Gonorrhea

It is a strictly human disease. Did the Good Lord bestow the gift of gonorrhea on Adam, or was it Eve? Who carried it onto the Ark? Why would God instruct Noah to carry any disease organisms or parasites onto the Ark? One of Noah’s family had to have been infected, but they were the only people worthy enough to be saved on the whole Earth. Which one had the clap? Why would He create anything so nasty anyway?

Sound fishy to you? Yeah, sounds fishy to me too.

Christians… I respect your right to believe what you want to believe, but you need to respect my right to think it’s silly. Just don’t push this crap in our public schools. And you should also know that I think people who push this on their own children are child abusers. So watch it.
